TITLE:  Mentor Monitor (School-Based) Intern
SALARY: Volunteer
DATES: Revolving (Fall/Spring)

Minimum Qualifications:
Intern should be a current student majoring in Family or Human Services,
Psychology, Social Work, Education, Leisure Services, Public Relations or
related field.

Skills and Abilities:
Intern will be required to pass the same personal background check as
Big Brothers and Big Sisters.  Intern must have strong communication,
public relations, problem solving and interpersonal skills.  This person
should be flexible and have the ability to perform whatever is required to
complete the assigned tasks.  Intern must comply with confidentiality
policy at all times.

Internship Description:
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing
and supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships.  Under direction of
the Mentor Coordinators, this person will assist in the daily operations of
the organization, including a wide variety of duties.  May require
occasional evening hours.

Primary Duties:
  1. Retrieve list of students in need of mentors
  2. Interview students
  3. Send home parent permission slips
  4. Check with teacher about student schedule and match time.
  5. Set up initial appointment with mentor
  6. Make introductions between student and mentor (match contract
    signed)
  7. Check with mentor at 2 weeks & Bi-monthly
  8. Supervise folders & communication to matches.
  9. Regular staff meetings with Mentor Coordinator at ESC
  10. Work with Coordinator to broaden effectiveness-newsletters,
    PR/marketing, clerical, etc. (as time or expertise allows)
  11. Reinforce process of mentoring-policies, philosophy
  12. Promote mentoring in school newsletters-articles.
  13. Present to PIE (Partner In Education) about mentoring.


Work Environment:
Interns in this position will be required to work in a standard office
environment and come in direct contact with staff and the public.  May
require some out-of-office contact with mentoring matches.
