TITLE: Traditional Program Support Intern
SALARY: Volunteer
DATES: Revolving (Fall/Spring/Summer)
Minimum Qualifications:
Intern should be a current student majoring in Family or Human Services,
Psychology, Social Work, Leisure Services, Education or related field.
Skills and Abilities:
Intern will be required to pass the same personal background check as Big Brothers
and Big Sisters. Intern must have strong communication, public relations, problem
solving and interpersonal skills. This person should be flexible and have the ability
to perform whatever is required to complete the assigned tasks. Intern must comply
with confidentiality policy at all times.
Internship Description:
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing and
supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships. Under direction of the Program
Coordinator, this person will assist in the daily operations of the organization,
including a wide variety of duties. May require some evening hours.
Primary Duties:
- Assist with some administrative duties, which may include answering phones,
photocopying and bulk mailings.
- Gain experience with volunteer recruitment and retention strategies.
- Interview youth and parents and provide orientation to parents.
- Assist with volunteer support and risk management.
- Learn how mentoring matches are made and assist in match-making process.
- Gather data and data entry. (monthly Program-Based Outcome Evaluations)
- Seek out donations of free or reduced cost activities for volunteers to share
with their Little Brother or Sister as time allows.
- Contact families currently waiting for Big Brothers or Sisters to update on
match status.
- Assist in special event planning and implementation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
Interns in this position will be required to work in a standard office environment and
come in direct contact with staff and the public. May require some out-of-office
contact with mentoring matches.
