Start Something Breakfasts a BIG Success!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa has raised nearly $40,000 at our annual Black Hawk, Bremer/Butler Floyd, and Fayette/Buchanan County Start Something Big Breakfasts. These funds will be used to match waiting youth with mentors in the community. The organization can serve up to 580 youth in one-to-one mentor matches in 2018.
During the breakfast events so far, the agency presented mentors the Big of the Year Award for the difference they have made in their Littles’ lives.
Rookie Big of the Year recipients were Isaac Newsome, Wendy Smith, Pam Novotny, Blaine Sage, Russ Ubben and Cindy Kuehn. Big of the Year recipients, mentors matched with the same Little in a long-standing relationship, were Andrew Green, Barb Winter, Marcus Weymiller, Dennis and Dixie Kehoe, Monica Severson, Griffin Brennecke and Christine Rimrod.
The agency honored businesses from Northeast Iowa that have supported BBBSNEIA for many years by committing financial resources, volunteers and in-kind donations. The Big Businesses of the Year were University of Iowa Community Credit Union (Black Hawk); CUNA Mutual (Bremer/Butler); Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Homes (Fayette) and Zoetis (Floyd).
